Info Session Jan 15th: Summer 2019 Study Abroad

Want to learn more about the summer 2019 Viking Visions study abroad program ( ? Come learn all the details at our Info Session next Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 11:10am-noon in UC Davis’s International Center Room 2119.

Led by UC Davis professor Kirsten Harjes ( , this new summer abroad program takes place in three countries (Iceland, Germany, and Denmark) and ends with a celebratory re-enactment festival on the beaches near Aarhus, Denmark. Along the way, students will study mythology, sagas, historical chronicles, and modern adaptations of Viking myths. Students will earn 8 UC Davis units in the program and can choose to take four units as GER 48 or GER 112; the other four will be GER 198 ( .

Among the ten cities or towns where students will visit are Copenhagen and Hamburg, and throughout the program, students will visit reconstructed medieval villages, museums, music festivals, and excavated burial sites of ships and chieftains.

At the hostels where the group will stay, all breakfasts are included, as are many lunches and dinners. Fees for the program can be found here ( , and remember that financial aid and many, many scholarships ( are available for UC Davis Summer Abroad!

Many of the enrollment ( features for Summer Abroad are now live, so you’re welcome to begin the online portions ( for any of the programs at any time. To start your enrollment, create a Study Abroad profile and complete the steps in your Study Abroad account ( . Beginning January 9 at 9am, you will be able to pay your deposit and submit your enrollment for these programs. Enrollments are accepted on a first-completed, first-reserved basis during the enrollment period: January 9-April 5, 2019.
